Terms of
service.
The rules. What you agree to, what we agree to, and what happens when somebody breaks them.

What this is
Passion Dating is a service for finding people through the things they care about. It is run by passionDating — in practice, one person and a small budget.
Using this site or the product means you accept these terms. If you do not accept them, do not use it. That is the whole of the agreement; there is no separate contract.
Three facts that shape everything below:
- The beta is invite-only. You cannot sign yourself up for an account. You join the list, and you are invited, or you are invited by somebody already inside. This is deliberate — friction at the door is the cheapest safety measure that exists.
- It is free. There is nothing to buy, no subscription, no paid tier, no in-app purchase, no feature behind a wall.
- It is small and unfinished. Treat it accordingly.
Who may use it
- You must be 18 or older.
- You must be in the United States. The beta admits US users only for now.
- You need an invitation.
- One account per person. It is yours; do not share it, sell it, or hand it to somebody else.
- What you put on your profile must be true. Not polished — true. Using somebody else's photos, or a name and history that are not yours, is the first move in almost every scam this kind of service attracts.
- If we have removed you before, you may not come back under a new account.
What you may not do
Plainly, and without hedging. Do not:
- Harass, threaten, stalk or intimidate anyone. Including after they stop replying. Especially after they stop replying.
- Post, send or ask for sexual content involving anyone under 18. Zero tolerance, no context in which this is a misunderstanding, no warning. See below for exactly what we do.
- Share an intimate image of somebody who did not agree to it — including an image that is fake, generated or edited to look like them. See the removal process.
- Send unsolicited sexual images. Nobody asked.
- Pretend to be somebody you are not, or claim a connection, job, or history you do not have.
- Ask anyone for money, gift cards, crypto, or investment. Not for a plane ticket, not for an emergency, not for a "sure thing". This is a bright line and we treat crossing it as fraud, not as a misunderstanding.
- Use the service to sell anything — goods, services, sexual services, a newsletter, a course, or a link.
- Spam: bulk or automated messaging, mass identical openers, or running multiple accounts.
- Attack people for who they are. Hate speech and slurs aimed at race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, disability, sex, gender identity or sexual orientation get you removed.
- Publish other people's private information — address, workplace, phone number, or screenshots of a private conversation shared to expose or embarrass someone.
- Sell or arrange the sale of drugs or weapons.
- Get around a block or a ban, or contact someone who has blocked you through another route.
- Scrape, crawl, or bulk-collect other people's profiles, or run automated tools against the service.
- Attack the service itself — probing for holes, breaking rate limits, or interfering with anybody else's use of it. If you find a security problem, please tell us at hello@passion.dating; a good-faith report is welcome and will not be treated as an attack.
- Break the law with it, generally.
If you are unsure whether something is allowed, it probably sits close enough to the line that the answer is no.
How we keep illegal content off this service
This section exists because a service like this owes you a straight answer about it, and because saying nothing is itself a failure. Here is what is actually in place.
Before anything is posted
- Invite-only entry. Accounts cannot be created at will. A bulk-created account is a priced input to the romance-scam trade; making accounts hard to mint removes the cheapest attack.
- A social graph, not an open field. You see friends and friends-of-friends. Somebody vouched for by a person you both know is a different risk from an anonymous stranger, and bad behaviour carries a real cost with real people.
- Rate limiting on account creation, signups and messaging, so that one bad actor cannot operate at scale.
After something is posted
- Report and block are available to every user, on every profile, message and piece of content, and they are not buried.
- Reports reach a human. Not a queue that nobody reads. We aim to respond within 24 hours.
- Anyone can report, account or not. If you do not use this service but something on it concerns you, email hello@passion.dating. You will not be asked to create an account first.
- We remove content and accounts that break the rules above, and we do not need a court order to do it.
The specific illegal harms, and what we do about each
- Child sexual abuse material. Removed on sight, account terminated permanently, and reported to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children's CyberTipline as US law requires. We preserve what the law requires us to preserve for that report, and nothing more.
- Adults soliciting minors. Same response. The service is 18-plus; an adult who tries to use it to reach a minor is removed and reported.
- Nonconsensual intimate images, real or AI-generated. Removed, along with any identical copies we know about, within 48 hours of a valid request. The request process is open to people without an account and is set out in full on the safety page.
- Threats to life or safety. A credible threat is escalated to law enforcement promptly, and we will act on it before we finish deliberating about it.
- Fraud and romance scams. Accounts asking other people for money are removed. If we ban someone for fraud who had been in contact with you, we will tell you — see the safety page for what that notice contains and how quickly it goes out.
- Harassment and stalking. Blocking is immediate and one-sided; you never need the other person's cooperation. Persistent or escalating behaviour is removed.
What we are not claiming. There is no automated moderation system scanning everything, and there is no team of moderators — at this size there is one person and a set of tools. What we do claim is that every report is read by a human, acted on, and answered. If we ever build automated detection, this page will say so and say what it does.
Enforcement, and how to appeal
When something is reported, we look at it, decide, and act. Depending on what happened, we can:
- remove the content;
- send a warning, where the behaviour looks like carelessness rather than malice;
- restrict an account — for example stopping it from starting new conversations;
- suspend an account while we work out what happened;
- remove the account permanently;
- report it to law enforcement, or to NCMEC where a child is involved.
For the serious categories in the list above — child sexual abuse material, nonconsensual intimate images, credible threats, fraud — the response is immediate removal, not a warning.
If we get it wrong, tell us. Email hello@passion.dating and a human will read it and reply. If your account was removed you can still send that email; the appeal does not require an account you no longer have. We will say what happened and why, unless telling you would compromise an investigation or put someone at risk.
We can also suspend or close the whole service, or your access to it, if we have to. We would tell you first if there were any way to.
Your content stays yours
Your photos, your words, your profile — they are yours. You keep every right you had in them.
You give us permission to store them and show them to the people the product is meant to show them to, because otherwise it cannot work. That permission is limited to running the service, and it ends when you delete the content or your account.
To be explicit about what that permission is not: we do not sell your content, we do not license it to anybody else, we do not put it in advertising, and we do not use it to train AI models or let anybody else do so.
Do not post things that are not yours to post.
Money
The service is free and there is nothing to buy. No subscriptions, no boosts, no paid visibility, nothing behind a paywall. It is supported by donations.
A donation is voluntary and buys nothing: no features, no priority, no standing in any dispute, and no exemption from these rules. If you donate and then break the rules, you are removed exactly as anyone else would be.
Leaving
You can delete your account at any time, from inside the product, without asking anyone. What that removes and what survives is set out in the privacy policy. To get off the beta signup list, email hello@passion.dating.
This is a beta
The product is early, invite-only, and provided as it is. It may be unavailable, lose data, behave oddly, or change substantially. We make no promise that it will keep working, that it will keep existing, or that you will meet anyone through it.
We do not run criminal background checks on members, and we do not verify anyone's identity against government records. Nobody here has been screened. Read the safety page before you meet anyone in person.
Liability
In plain terms: this is a free service run by one person, and it is not insurance against other people.
The service is provided "as is", without warranties of any kind, to the fullest extent the law allows. We are not responsible for what other users do, say, or turn out to be, on the service or off it. We are not responsible for indirect or consequential losses. Where liability cannot be excluded, it is limited to the amount you have paid us, which is nothing.
Nothing here limits liability for anything that cannot lawfully be limited — including our own fraud, or death or personal injury caused by our negligence.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of North Carolina, and any dispute will be handled in the courts of North Carolina.
Before anything reaches a court, please email hello@passion.dating. Almost everything is solvable that way, and nobody involved here has a legal department.
If some part of these terms turns out to be unenforceable, the rest still stands.
Changes
We will change these terms as the product changes. When we do, the date at the top changes, and we will email the beta list before a substantive change takes effect. Continuing to use the service after that means you accept the new version; if you do not, delete your account.
